My friend and mentor Andreas Rost finally has his own website. Next to newer series from the Arabian word and portraits from the Occupy Berlin movement there are also his b/w-Berlin series from the late 90s “vergehen” and “Paraden” which are some of my favourite works of Andreas.

Max Thielmann’s series Casino Boogie consists of photographs taken in Berliner bars during the last twenty years. Those who have been in Berlin in the 90s may spot some long gone places like Mary Chain Bar, Kastanienallee, or Obst und Gemüse, Oranienburger Straße. Some pictures seem to twinkle over from a hazy distant past, some are just from around the corner and could have been taken last night. Max Thielmanns ode to Berliner night- and bar-life is on exhibition at FENSTER61 until May, 15th.

Vienna – what a charming city! The opening on Friday was quite full – 150?… 200? visitors – something like that. The gallery isn’t als big as the Berlin venue was, it’s more like a 3 room apartment here. That means that the exhibition is a bit more focused and that works very well I think. There’s another “Gallery Talk and Tour” today (2 – 5 pm) – so if you should be around Vienna – check this.

Tomorrow, 7pm: if you should be in or around Vienna, don’t miss the opening of Seconds2Real’s group show at Anzenberger Gallery. It’s the first time that I’m involved in an exhibition in Austria. I’m looking forward to a few days in Vienna meeting lots of nice people, celebrating the opening party for the 2ed Fascination Street exhibition and hopefully finding some good moments while photographing in the city. While I had some of my newer pictures in the Berlin edition of Fascination Street last autumn, the Vienna show will include some of my ALEX series from 2008-2010.

Btw: ORF published a nice article about Street Photography and Seconds2Real yesterday (German only).

Dad’s clothes

The series Dad’s clothes is part of a work group called Dad’s Suicide by London based photographer Andre Penteado. After the suicide of his father he made self portaits wearing all the clothes of his father. A moving piece of work.

Jörg Brüggemann opening tonight

Another promising opening with photographs that look as if they would have been taken back in the 80′s takes place at gestalten Place tonight: Metalheads by Ostkreuz photographer Jörg Brüggeman. 6pm – 8pm, featuring a live performance by Sun Worship, a black metal band from Berlin. Bang your head!

Proof9 group show opening tonight

The photographers of the new collective Proof9 are presenting their first group exhibition “Bodenlos” at Brotfabrik Berlin. Opening is tonight at 7pm, participating photographers are Peter Feldhaus, Anke Großklaß, Susanne Leibold, Mark van der Maarel, Bigi Moehrle, Dirk Opitz, Irina Tübbecke and David Wieck.

Off to Hamburg

I’m looking forward to a few days of strolling through the city of Hamburg. Part of the visit will be the Saul Leiter exhibition, of course. I’ve just run a little research and found those fine links about the event. I’m also going to meet two fellows from Seconds2Real and a quite well known photographer for an interview. And of course I’ll be walking the streets looking for some good pictures to find me. Like this one that I got when I was there last time.

Animals at Neue Schule

Neue Schule für Fotografie in Berlin is opening an exhibition called “Tiere“ (“Animals”) tonight. The exhibition is curated by Eva Bertram and Marc Volk and shows work of several students form the school.

Boris Mikhailov opening tonight

Boris Mikhailov’s exhibition Time is out of Joint. Photography 1966-2011 is opening tonight at Berlinische Galerie at 7pm. “The exhibition is conceived as a show of his oeuvre and brings together a selection of works that encompass the experimental images of his earlier years as well as works produced recently in Berlin. This is the first extensive exhibition of the artist’s work in Germany.” (quote from the press release). The Ukrainian photographer is living in Berlin Wilmersdorf since the early 2000s.
