Max Thielmann’s series Casino Boogie consists of photographs taken in Berliner bars during the last twenty years. Those who have been in Berlin in the 90s may spot some long gone places like Mary Chain Bar, Kastanienallee, or Obst und Gemüse, Oranienburger Straße. Some pictures seem to twinkle over from a hazy distant past, some are just from around the corner and could have been taken last night. Max Thielmanns ode to Berliner night- and bar-life is on exhibition at FENSTER61 until May, 15th.

A new exhibition at FENSTER61: Torsten Schumann is showing a selection of his colored photographs from the suburban area of Berlin, bizarre findings and odd looking still lifes. For an online impression of the exhibition – as always – see the FENSTER61 website and enjoy.

Unquiet slumbers for Wenke Seemann’s sleepers at FENSTER61… While Torstraße in Berlin Mitte is a quite noisy street anyway, the construction work right next to the window is still getting on our nerves. But inside the window we have the finest contrast to that – an installation of beautiful black and white photographs of people sleeping in their own private bed. Check out the series called “Mein kleiner Wecker tickt dazu/My little alarm clock is ticking to it” here. By the way – real insiders may spot two photographers amoung the people on the photographs who have showed their work at FENSTER61 in the past…

After the release of Henrik Verning’s book Berlin – Die Stadt und die Beute in 2008 I asked him if he would like to exhibit some of his photographs at FENSTER61. He exhibited some new work there in 2009 and some of the pictures are now part of his new publication Sampler.01/Berlin:Crash. Verning shows a collection of photographs with hard contrasts in grainy black and white. A wild mixture of steet impressions, close-ups, portraits, animals and night visions that drag you through a dark, rough and blurry version of the city.
The magazine is planned to be published as a limited edition of 100 on a regular basis. Here’s a video on vimeo that gives an impression about the first issue.

FENSTER61 is having a break. No planning in the summer => no exhibitions in the autumn. As simple as that. FENSTER61 will be back with monthly changing photo exhibitions in January 2012. Expected to be among the next photographers are Wenke Seemann, Thorsten Strasas and Torsten Schumann. Submissions are always welcome as long as they fit to the concept.

Very Berlin, very factual, very architecture – there are two exhibitions by Jörg Schmiedekind in Berlin at the time. One at galerie en passant, the other one a view blocks further at FENSTER61.

Joab Nist is running a blog called Notes Of Berlin. Everybody can submit pictures of curious notes found in Berlin – slips of paper sticked on lamp poles, in entrance halls, public bill-boards etc. The project was started about ten month ago and became quites famous. Currenty there’s a selection of the Notes Of Berlin on exhibit at FENSTER61. It’s the only exhibition at FENSTER61 that is more about reading than about watching photographs I guess.

Since Florian Reischauer moved from Austria to Berlin three years ago he is driving around with his moped to explore the different areas of the city. Whenever he meets a person he finds interesting he starts a little chat and asks for permission to take a portrait with his old AGFA middle format camera he bought on ebay. He takes one photo of each person only and combines the pictures with a little text he writes about him or her. New pictures are constantly publised on his blog so the series is growing all the time. For the first time Florian Reischauer is showing some photographs of his series Pieces Of Berlin in the non-virtual world now. Until June, 14th there’s a selection of 14 photographs + texts on exhibition at FENSTER61.
Check his work his website and blog piecesofberlin.com.
